Fictional practice problem.
An order reads 5 mcg/kg/min. The bag contains 400 mg in 250 mL. The practice weight is 80 kg. What rate, in mL/hr?
Start with what's ordered: 5 mcg/kg/min.
Multiply by weight so kg cancels: × 80 kg → 400 mcg/min.
Minutes to hours: × 60 min / 1 hr → 24,000 mcg/hr.
mcg to mg to match the bag: × 1 mg / 1,000 mcg → 24 mg/hr.
Use the concentration, flipped so mg cancels: × 250 mL / 400 mg → 15 mL/hr.
Check it another way: 400 mg ÷ 250 mL = 1.6 mg/mL; 24 mg/hr ÷ 1.6 mg/mL = 15 mL/hr ✓

Is Drug Infusion free?
Yes. It's free to download, and the calculator, Scenarios, the drug reference, and receiving two-person checks are free with no time limit. Pro is an optional one-time purchase (US$29.99 in the US) that unlocks Learn, unlimited two-person checks, the simulated infusion timeline, and pump verification practice.
Can I use it for real patients?
No. Drug Infusion is an educational simulator. It is not a medical device or clinical decision-support software. In real care, follow your institution's protocols, pharmacy references, and supervision.
How does the two-person check work without a network?
One device shows a QR code; the other scans it with its camera and compares on-device. Nothing is sent over a network, and the result appears on the verifier's device.
I used the app before the Pro upgrade. Do I have to pay?
Eligible long-time users receive lifetime Pro at no charge; the app checks automatically. If it doesn't recognize you, open Settings, tap Manage, then tap Restore Purchase, or email support@ianesthesia.org.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 18 or later.
Does my practice data leave my device?
No. Your calculations, scenarios and progress stay on your device. If iCloud is on, two small items sync through your own iCloud account: how many free two-person checks you've started, and lifetime Pro status for eligible long-time users. A Pro purchase is restored from your Apple ID, not from iCloud.
Can my class use it?
Yes. The free app can be deployed through Apple School Manager and has no accounts. Pro is an in-app purchase and can't be bought in volume through Apple School Manager.
